The 'Devil' Writes Pat Robertson A Letter

Dear Pat Robertson, I know that you know that all press is good press, so I appreciate the shout-out. And you make God look like a big mean bully who kicks people when they are down, so I'm all over that action.

But when you say that Haiti has made a pact with me, it is totally humiliating. I may be evil incarnate, but I'm no welcher. The way you put it, making a deal with me leaves folks desperate and impoverished.

Sure, in the afterlife, but when I strike bargains with people, they first get something here on earth -- glamour, beauty, talent, wealth, fame, glory, a golden fiddle. Those Haitians have nothing, and I mean nothing. And that was before the earthquake. Haven't you seen "Crossroads"? Or "Damn Yankees"?

If I had a thing going with Haiti, there'd be lots of banks, skyscrapers, SUVs, exclusive night clubs, Botox -- that kind of thing. An 80 percent poverty rate is so not my style. Nothing against it -- I'm just saying: Not how I roll.

You're doing great work, Pat, and I don't want to clip your wings -- just, come on, you're making me look bad. And not the good kind of bad. Keep blaming God. That's working. But leave me out of it, please. Or we may need to renegotiate your own contract.

Best, Satan

RELEVANT Magazine - Don Miller Responds to Pat Robertson

Another truth that gives me a more grounded perspective on Pat Robertson is that he really doesn’t represent most conservatives. I come from a politically and religiously conservative family, and many, many of my friends are very conservative, and all of them would be in shock at Robertson’s statements. The media would have Robertson represent all Christians, or perhaps all conservatives, but the idea is absurd. It’s also important to let people know we think it’s absurd.

Believing Pat Robertson represents all Christians is absurd, and unfair, but it is up to those Christians that resent being associated with his ideas to speak up.

Loud.

slacktivist: Dear Pat Robertson, STFU

Part of what's going on here -- apart from Robertson's being both evil and barking mad -- is that he's trying to make sense of the world for his frightened followers. Whenever inexplicable tragedy occurs, Robertson rushes in to make his unique sort of sense out of the senselessness and to reassure his listeners that they will never have to suffer. Suffering, he explains, is something that only happens to Other People. These Other People, he explains, are suffering because they deserve it.

Pat Robertson Calls Haiti Quake 'blessing in disguise'

Pat Robertson also claimed that Haiti was cursed because of a previous pact they made with the devil to rid them of the French.

Either Robertson's God isn't one I want anything to do with, or the Christian Right needs new voices.
